The natural bathing area of Porto do Comprido, near the Capelinhos Volcano, is reminiscent of the island’s whaling heritage, from where the whaling boats used to set sail. Formed by basaltic rocks, its waters are crystal clear and warm, perhaps heated by the dormant volcano.
